Summer is here, and who doesn’t want the best summer lashes?
In Brisbane, summer generally means warmer weather and more trips to the beach. Sweat, oil and humidity are all working against you in the Brisbane summer so your retention game will become paramount to keep your lash extensions tip top in these harsher conditions. Your social calendar will be buzzing with beach days, pool parties and BBQs. There are many elements in these summer activities that will affect your retention, some of which you may not even realise, but there are things you can do to get great retention and have the best summer lashes. So what can you do to get the most from your eyelash extensions this season? Keep reading for our 5 top tips!
Apply sunscreen carefully.
No matter what your plans, if you’re outside in Brisbane in the summer you should be wearing sunscreen with a high SPF content, particularly on your face. But did you know that most sunscreens contain oils that will affect your eyelash extension adhesive and break it down over time?
If you can’t get an oil-free sunscreen then we recommend avoiding sunscreen sprays and applying your sunscreen carefully, particularly around the eye area.
Rinse your lashes after a swim.
Both swimming pools and seawater can affect your lash retention. That said, we don’t recommend avoiding water, in fact it’s quite the contrary, go enjoy yourself and have fun! Lash extensions should be an enhancement of yourself and should not stop you doing the activities you love. Instead we simply advise to wear goggles, if you can, but most importantly that you rinse your lashes with clean fresh water once you have finished swimming. As with sunscreen, chemicals and saltwater will break down the eyelash extension adhesive over time. Clean lashes are happy lashes.
Avoid direct sources of heat.
Pool parties, BBQ’s and entertaining means more cooking. But did you realise that getting too close to a direct heat source can actually melt your lash extensions? Avoid that gust of hot air that comes from the oven when you open it, and don’t get too close to the BBQ! Melted lash extensions will need to be removed at your next appointment so it may lead to needing a new full set instead of just a refill.
Clean your lashes.
If you’ve been to our salon you will already know that we always advise you to clean your lashes daily with a specialist lash shampoo, and at Bellissimo Lashes all new clients are gifted a free lash shampoo with their first full set treatment. Cleaning actually helps your lash extensions to last longer by gently removing all the elements that may break down the adhesive. In the summer we recommend additional rinsing and cleansing to combat those extra elements of the summer season.
Book regular refill appointments.
Hair tends to grow a little faster in warmer weather, and this includes your nails and your natural lashes too. If you are keeping your lashes nice and clean then you may notice they grow out quicker in the summer so you might like to adjust your refill cycle to keep your extensions full and fluffy for the summer season.
